- Fighting in Somalia continues to destabilize the country, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, says the country is being held hostage by its elite which is benefiting from the crisis.

- The International Criminal Court, which started working in 2002, is a fully functioning judicial institution. Many of its cases involve crimes committed in Africa. In the case of Darfur in Sudan, African leaders are insisting that the search for justice should not impede the promotion of peace in the country.



Small farmers play crucial role in food production in Africa

- A recent report by the UN Environment Programme projects says that Africa will have an additional one billion people to feed by 2050. The lead author of the report, Dr. Christian Nellemann, says small farmers play a crucial role in food production on the continent.
