The General Assembly this week announced its decision to reschedule the Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on development to 24 to 26 June, from its previously-scheduled dates of 1-3 June. General Assembly President Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann said he has heard the concerns expressed by some Member States and reiterated that the negotiation process would be open, comprehensive, transparent and inclusive. Haiti says the Caribbean Community attaches great importance to the upcoming conference.
Foreign direct investment flows to the Caribbean and Latin America are expected to drop sharply
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to Latin America and the Caribbean are expected to drop sharply this year, according to a report of the Economic Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2008 report says FDI flows to the region in 2008 were close to $129 billion. It describes this as a historical record, considering the current economic difficulties. UN Radio's Dianne Penn reports.

The challenge of food security can no longer be addressed within the confines of national boundaries. That, according to Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo. He told the Commission on Sustainable Development that delegates are adequately aware of the problem the world will face if it does not rise to the challenge of becoming food sufficient for future generations. President Jagdeo says as has been projected, 85% of the world will face some water shortage by 2030.
