- The Trust Fund for the Permanent Memorial at the UN to honour the victims of slavery is launched at a special event. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the fund will be managed on his behalf by the UN Office for Partnership which will provide advice and guidance to the initiative.

- "The Bite of the Mango" is the title of a book about the ordeal of a girl who was captured by rebels who cut off her hands during the conflict in Sierra Leone. Mariatu Kamara tells UN Radio that now that the war is over in her country, the United Nations should continue to support its victims.

- One of the threats to food security in Africa is the tsetse fly, which feeds on human and animal blood and spread disease. Louise Potterton finds out from Udo Feldmann, an entomologist at the International Atomic Energy Agency how nuclear technology is being used to combat this insect.
