Collecting firewood for cooking is a daily hardship for women and girls living in refugee camps. They spend long hours foraging for it and risk being sexually assaulted as they leave the safety of the camps. As the nearby areas become deforested, they are forced to go even farther. Burning firewood indoors also creates air pollution. To address all of these problems, the Women's Refugee Commission has started the Fuel and Firewood Initiative.

And violence by an intimate partner is one of the most common forms of violence against women. In this report, WHO's Veronica Riemer explores initiatives that seek to address domestic violence, especially by involving men - the usual perpetrators.
