- The Commission on Sustainable Development begins its two-week session focusing on Africa, agriculture, rural development, land, drought and desertification. Deputy Secretary-General Asha Rose Migiro says agriculture has been neglected for a long time resulting in African farmers struggling to survive.
UN envoy says Abyei region of Sudan needs stability
- The Comprehensive Peace Agreement which ended more than two decades of conflict between north and south Sudan continues to face challenges. In this second part of an interview with UN Radio, the UN envoy in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi talks about the conflict in the oil-rich region of Abyei which has raised the spectre of the resumption of civil war.
South Africa faces a variety of health challenges
- South Africa is facing complex public health challenges, including HIV and AIDS. The representative of the World Health Organization, Dr. Stella Anyangwe tells UN Radio that the country has diseases found in both developing and developed countries.
