- The Security Council holds an open meeting on children and armed conflict. A former girl child soldier from Uganda, Grace Akallo, tells the Council that she was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army and forced to be a child soldier and sex slave.





Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan faces challenges

- It is just over one and a half year before the people of South Sudan decide whether to remain part of Sudan or create their own country, in accordance with a 2005 agreement. In this first part of an interview with UN Radio, the head of the UN Mission in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi says two major benchmarks remain in the implementation of the agreement.




Diasporas contribute to post-conflict reconstruction

- Countries recovering from conflict face the enormous challenge of reconstruction so that people can resume normal life. Participants in a two-day seminar held in New York say the Diaspora can play an important role in peace building. However, they point out that there are challenges and difficulties in involving the Diaspora.
