Durban Review Conference

- Delegates gathered in Geneva this week to review progress made in combating racism since the world conference on racism in 2001. A number of countries, including the United States did not attend the meeting. The Foreign Minister of South Africa says that despite progress made in addressing the issue, racism remains a challenge.

- One of the participants in the Geneva conference is Al Shayma J. Kwegyir, an albino and member of parliament in Tanzania who is talking about discrimination faced by albinos in her country. She says that superstition and witchcraft have led to the killing of albinos in the east African country.

- The meeting in Geneva comes in less than two weeks after the commemoration of the Rwanda genocide in which intolerance resulted in the slaughter of approximately one million Tutsis. Marie Claudine Mukamabano who survived the genocide talks about the effects it has had on her.
