The Commission on Population and Development has concluded its general debate on national experiences in population matters: contribution of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development to the internationally-agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.

The day was mandated by the UN General Assembly to raise public awareness about the disorder which affects individuals at their early developmental age.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Floriano Peixoto Vieira Neto of Brazil as Force Commander of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Major General Floriano Peixoto will replace the outgoing Force Commander Major General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz of Brazil on 9 April.
