Ann Veneman, Executive Director of UNICEF, was just one of the speakers at a press conference kicking off a five-US city tour to battle sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The tour will go to three cities in California -- Los Angeles, San Francisco and Redwood City -- and Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, DC.

A non-governmental organization encourages girls to get an education
Fatima Ahmed, head of the ngo "Zenab for Women in Development," is attending the Commission for Social Development at UN headquarters in New York. In its two week session, the Commission is discussing social integration, poverty eradication and full employment. Ms. Ahmed believes that in spite of the current economic situation in her native Sudan, she, like her mother, can encourage more girls to get an education.
