Jifahamu, know yourself in Swahili - a programme to break down taboos of talking about sex, pregnancy and disease
In Mwanza, the second largest city in Tanzania, Edna Matasha is working to help women to become more comfortable in seeking health care and learning how to protect themselves from AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. She was at the UN recently where UN Radio's Nuba Elamin sat down to ask her about handling sensitive issues in traditional societies where cultural taboos often restrict women from leaving their homes to seek medical care. Nuba began by asking Edna Matasha how they had come to choose the name Jifahamu, Kiswhahil for "know yourself".
