UN Works toward immediate and durable ceasefire in Gaza

Even after the UN Security Council called for an end to hostilities in the Gaza Strip,the fighting continued. So the UN General Assembly, made up of all 192 member States, convened an emergency session to address the crisis. Jamaica, represented by its ambassador to the UN, Raymond Wolf, was one of the countries which expressed its concern about the fighting in Gaza.

The Food and Agriculture Organization Helps Farmers of Haiti Produce More Food
With nearly half of its population undernourished, Haiti has suffered dramatically from the recent surge in the cost of food and fuel. In fact, the term "eating bleach" in the country refers to the pains brought on by high food prices. Now, with the help of FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, some 70 thousand farmers will receive help in the form of agricultural inputs that will help boost local production and cut Haiti's reliance on pricey imported foods.

The Global Financial Crisis and Its Effect on Health Care

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the current economic downturn is likely to affect global health as well as international development assistance. WHO Director-General Margaret Chan recently invited health ministers, civil society and international organizations to discuss what steps can be taken to protect vulnerable populations from the negative impacts of the current crisis.
