Top UN envoy sees slow but solid progress in Cote d'Ivoire peace process

- The top UN envoy in Cote d'Ivoire says the consolidation of peace is slow but solid as progress is being made in identifying citizens. Y.J. Choi tells UN Radio that more 3.5 million Ivorians have been identified in preparation for elections. Mr. Choi says the elections are being planned by the people of Cote d'Ivoire themselves in accordance with the 2007 Ouagadougou political settelement but the UN is supporting the process and will ensure that the outcome is certified and accepted by all the parties.
Rwandan troops enter DR Congo to disarm Hutu militias
- Rwandan and Congolese forces conduct a joint operation to disarm Rwandan Hutu militias in the eastern part of the Congo. The UN mission in the Congo admits that the government's decision to engage the Rwandan army to disarm the militias has proven contentious. MONUC, which has not been involved in the planning of the operations, says it will uphold its mandate to protect civilians.

- Health workers are in the forefront of working to meet the millennium development goal of improving maternal health and reduce the number of women who die in pregnancy and childbirth. Two South African male nurses talk about the challenges of working in midwifery as men in their country. They say one of the problems they face is that African women do not expect African men to be present during childbirth.
