WFP and Unilever honours ten students for fighting hunger in Pakistan
The World Food Programme (WFP) and Unilever Pakistan Limited have honoured ten students of a local school in Karachi for their role in fighting hunger.
The students of Bay View Academy have been commended for their efforts to create awareness and collect funds for the UN food agency's school feeding programme.
The students received certificates from WFP and Unilever officials honouring them with the title of "Agent against Hunger" for participating in the 'Feed One More campaign.'
The campaign is an initiative started by the UN food agency in partnership with Unilever in 2007 to fight hunger and encourage poor families to send their girls to school.
Each girl takes home a tin of edible oil upon attending school for 20 days each month.
WFP says that today it assists over 3,000 schools in a number of districts where more than one million students get a monthly take home ration of edible oil and a daily meal of high energy biscuits.
