The search for peace in Gaza

children in conflict in Gaza

children in conflict in Gaza

Diplomatic efforts are underway to arrange a ceasefire in Gaza after three weeks of fighting. But despite a Security Council resolution (1860) calling on both sides to stop the fighting, the death toll continues to rise - more than 1,000 Palestinian civilians have died and almost 5,000 have been injured.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is in the region to meet with leaders as intensive negotiations are underway in Egypt to broker a deal acceptable to both Israel and Hamas. In this programme, UN workers on the ground in Gaza, the Secretary-General, Israeli ambassador to the UN Gabriela Shalev and others weigh in on the crisis.
