UNICEF- the UN children's agency is calling on all parties to the conflict in Gaza to take every measure to protect children.

UNICEF says children's rights can be respected.
The agency is also calling for safe spaces and unimpeded humanitarian access to be established in Gaza urgently to ensure that children have access to regular life-saving supplies and support.

UNICEF Spokeswoman in Geneva Veronique Taveau says its operations in Gaza are also suspended as its staff is unable to work safely.

"We pre-position lots of material, equipment, supplies that's available at the moment. The point is access. The fact that we cannot move inside Gaza because of security reasons makes the distribution f those materials and equipment...We cannot distribution them at the moment because of the security reason."

UNICEF says its work includes provision of water and sanitation services and distribution of water purification tablets.
