Agreement reached on resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza

Agreement has been reached on a UN resolution calling for an immediate and durable ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians.

Word of the agreement came from Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal:

"We have an agreed text.... We are going to vote on it tonight in the Security Council. This is I think a historic occasion."

And British Foreign Secretary David Miliband says it's significant that over the last three days, they- the foreign ministers should have built genuine consensus on the details of a strong resolution that calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire:

"We are all very conscious that peace is made on the ground while resolutions are written in the United Nations. Our job here is to support the efforts for peace on the ground and to help turn the good words to paper into changes on the ground that are desperately needed."

Foreign Secretary Miliband expressed the hope that the vote would be a unanimous resolution that will "send a very strong signal about the determination of the whole international community to build a dignity for the people of Gaza and security for the people of Israel."
