ICRC discovers children and dead mothers in Gaza war zone
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reports the discovery of several dead and wounded civilians in houses South of Gaza City. Among those discovered were four children next to their dead mothers - too weak to walk. The ICRC had been trying to gain access to the houses since Saturday after receiving reports of casualties. The Israeli military had refused to grant permission to enter the neighborhood until Wednesday. The ICRC issued a statement in which it said the Israeli military "failed to meet its obligation under international humanitarian law to care for and evacuate the wounded." John Holmes, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs described the scene in the houses as horrifying.
