While officially ordering an end to the fighting, Russia is opposed to a Security Council resolution France is circulating regarding the situation in Georgia. That resolution calls for a return to pre-fighting positions and respect the borders of the country. Georgia's UN Ambassador says the credibility of the Security Council is at stake and he hopes the body passes the resolution as soon as possible. Russia's UN Ambassador says the resolution falls short when it comes to matters of principle and Russia, which has veto power in the Council, will not support it as written.
