World Court Orders United States to do What it Can to Halt Execution of Mexican Citizens on Death Row
16/07/2008
The International Court of Justice has issued a ruling ordering the United States to do what it can to halt the execution of five Mexican citizens on death row. The US was accused of failing to inform 51 Mexican citizens sentenced to die in US prisons of their right to consular assistance. In 2004 the World Court ruled that the US violated international law and ordered it to review the 51 cases to determine whether the lack of consular assistance had an impact on the outcome of their trials.
