Let Legal Process Continue in Genocide Case Against Sudan's President - France's UN Ambassador
16/07/2008
Sudan's UN Ambassador has called on the Security Council to step in and prevent the International Criminal Court from issuing an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Bashir on charges of Genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Those charges were filed on Monday by the ICC's chief prosecutor. But, France's UN Ambassador says the Security Council should not get in the way of the judicial process. Ambassador Jean Maurice Ripert also says that should judges decide to issue a formal indictment, the European Union, by its own rules, would not deal with President Bashir when it comes to attempts to negotiate peace in Darfur.
