AU peacekeeper killed in Mogadishu

An African Union peacekeeper has been killed and another injured by a roadside bomb in Mogadishu.

It comes a day after the African Union warned it may have no option but to leave Somalia unless its force was strengthened.

The 3,600-strong AU force has faced frequent attacks from Islamist insurgents - especially the al-Shabab group in the capital Mogadishu.

The latest attack brings the number of African Union troops killed in Somalia to nine, since the first Ugandan troops were deployed there in 2007.

This is Donn Bobb reporting for United Nations Radio.
