WHO calls for improved access for medical personnel
06/01/2009
The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling on all parties to the conflict in Gaza to respect health workers and facilities and desist from targeting them.
WHO Spokesman Paul Garwood says since the start of the hostilities on December 27th, six health personnel have been killed and an ambulance shelled:
"So WHO is also advocating for improved access, humanitarian access into the Gaza Strip as well as referrals of patients into neighboring countries."
Garwood says WHO expects to deliver into Gaza two major shipments of supplies from Norway including surgical kits to treat 5,000 patients for up to 10 days.
