WFP launches food distribution to families in Gaza
The UN food agency - WFP is responding to the growing humanitarian needs in Gaza by distributing bread to families in areas that have been badly hit by the recent upsurge in the conflict.
Robin Lodge of the World Food Programme (WFP) is in Jerusalem.
He tells UN Radio there's a major food crisis in that people do not have access to food; they're going hungry; they can't get out of their homes and those who venture out of their homes find absolutely nothing in the market:
"We are doing our best to find ways of reaching these people. One of the things we are doing is delivering flour to bakeries so that the bakeries can actually provide baked bread to people who don't have any power, who cannot actually bake their own bread. There again we still have a problem getting the [bread] from the bakery to the people in need. But we are doing our best to find ways of doing this."
Lodge says the most vulnerable people are not receiving the food distribution they would normally get because of the security situation.
This is Donn Bobb reporting for United Nations Radio.
