Humanitarian Aid for Gaza Welcomed but More is Needed - USG Holmes
John Holmes, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs says yesterday 55 trucks delivered humanitarian aid to Gaza and another 60 trucks arrived today.
He says while the aid is desperately needed and welcomed, the numbers are significantly less than
they were in the past.
"Just to put the supplies I've been talking about through the crossing in context, if we're talking about something like an average age 60 trucks loads a day at the moment that compares to 125 truckloads a day in October 2008 which in turn compares to475 truckloads a day in May 2007 just before the Hamas takeover. So that gives you some indication of the small quantities of goods that are actually getting in even though we're obviously happy that some gods are getting in at all."
