2008 was another year of many challenges for Africa as the continent continued to grapple with conflicts and humanitarian crises. United Nations Headquarters in New York, the continent continued to be on the front burner not only on issues of conflict and humanitarian crises but also those of economic development and trade. Cheick Sidi Diarra, the Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Africa says that this trend started in 2007 with the establishment of a steering group on the Millennium Development Goals in Africa.
