TBD
Special Christmas Day programme
Today, instead of our usual news programme, we'll hear a selection of musical excerpts from events that took place throughout the year here at the United Nations:
First up, we'll hear Song without Borders, a composition that premiered at the UN on August 19th, the 5th anniversary of the terrorist bombing of the UN headquarters in Iraq.
Now, here's a performance by the Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski from the farewell concert for the former President of the General Assembly, Srgjan Kerim.
At this concert in September, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his appreciation for President Kerim's leadership over the period of the 62nd session of the General Assembly starting in September 2007.
And finally, we go back to UN Day, October 24th, to hear Yo-yo Ma playing a Bach Suite for Cello.
Music draws people together, and this evening at the UN, in celebration of UN Day, renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will lead his Silk Road Ensemble in a special concert at the UN. A United Nations Messenger for Peace, Yo-Yo Ma is founder and artistic director of the Silk Road Ensemble, which is made up of musicians and other artists from more the 20 countries that are along the historical Silk Road trading route.
And that's all in our special Christmas Day programme. We hope you enjoyed it and please join us again tomorrow for our regular news programme.
I'm Gerry Adams and this is United Nations Radio in New York.
