Arab Ambassadors urge Security Council to stop Israel violence
The Permanent Observer of the Palestinian Authority says he has asked the Security Council to bring Israel into compliance with the council's call for an end to the violence in Gaza.
Riyad Mansour says an Arab delegation met with the Secretary-General and the president of the Security Council to discuss what practical measures can be taken to follow up on the implementation of the council's call.
"It was the council unanimously who decided to call for a ceasefire and for addressing the situation in Gaza through the opening of the crossings. So it is the responsibility of the council to act in a practical way to bring Israel into compliance with its position."
Mansour says the intensified military build up of Israeli forces outside Gaza for a possible attack is another reason for the council to act promptly.
