Ban urges Arab foreign ministers to act swiftly to end violence in Gaza

Regional and international partners are not doing enough to end the violence in Gaza.

That's what Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday in a statement on the escalation of violence in Gaza.
The Secretary-General says regional and international partners should use all possible means to end the violence and encourage political dialogue, emphasizing peaceful ways of resolving differences.

"Arab Foreign Ministers are going to meet soon in emergency session. I urge them to act swiftly and decisively to bring an early end to this impasse. At the same time, other world leaders must also step up efforts to support a longer term resolution of the issue."

Secretary-General Ban says he has spoken to the principals of the Quartet - the European Union, Russia and the United States- and also regional leaders in order to underscore the need to restore calm in full.
