The meeting, which begins Tuesday in Denpasar, Indonesia, will cover topics such as the implications of the global financial crisis for the region, and food security through sustainable agriculture. Concerns of small island states will also be discussed.

Participants from more than 20 countries are expected to attend the two-day session. They will include policy makers, finance experts, civil society leaders, climate change specialists, entrepreneurs and agricultural innovators.

The meeting is jointly organized by the government of Indonesia and the UN Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific known as ESCAP.

According to a statement from ESCAP, this will be the first time the issues of the food, energy and financial crises, and climate change, will be addressed by the region "in a comprehensive and integrated manner".
