Global Forum Adopts Initiative To Promote Water and Sanitation

A Global WASH Forum has ended in the Senegalese capital of Dakar after launching two new initiatives, aimed at raising the profile of the global water, sanitation and hygiene campaign, known as WASH.

Diane Bailey reports:

'The first is the African Ministerial Initiative, a mobilization exercise to make sure policymakers everywhere in Africa embrace actions to increase access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene for all their citizens.  Maria Mutagamba, Uganda's Minister of Water, is the President of African Ministers Council on Water:

"It is an initiative giving us yet another opportunity, or another window that can help us champion the case or the crusade for sanitation and hygiene."

The second initiative announced Friday in Dakar is the Women Leaders for Wash, a high level group of women leaders around the world, who will join forces to make WASH a household word as well as encourage other leaders to join the campaign.'
