Developing Economies in Asia to Show Better than Average Growth in 2005
13/12/2004
Developing economies in the Asia-Pacific region will grow faster than the global average next year.
But the UN's regional council says the area's economies are expected to face challenges from volatile oil prices and slowing growth in major export markets. Director of the UN Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific Kim Hak-su says the average growth rate for developing Asian economies is projected to slow to just over six per cent, but will continue to have the highest growth rates in the world. Mr. Kim told a press conference in Bangkok that China is expected to have the region's highest growth domestic product growth rate at 8.8 per cent.
