29/12/2004
Deaths from the tsunamis in the Indian Ocean could reach 100-thousand when the toll from islands in the Bay of Bengal is known.
That according to a senior official of the International Red Cross. Simon Missiri is head of the International Federation of the Red Cross Asia Pacific Department. He told a Geneva press conference Wednesday that the staggering death toll now pegged at more than 70-thousand keeps growing:
"It could still raise higher than that and it may go up to 100-thousand. There's still fear that up to 30,000 may be unaccounted for in the islands in India."
