Sri Lanka Mobilizes All Resources to Deal with Disaster
31/12/2004
The top priority of the Sri Lankan Government is to deal with the disaster created by Sunday's tsunamis.
Sri Lanka's ambassador to the Word Trade Organization, Gomi Senadhira, says the government has mobilized all its resources to respond to the emergency. At the same time he adds the country needs both short and long-term assistance.
"In the short term we need assistance to deal with the disaster, that is medical aid, food supplies because most of the shops, the towns have been washed out and there is hardly any economic activities in this area."
Ambassador Senadhira says in the medium and long term, reconstruction is important because of the total destruction of infrastructure.
