Earthquake Operation A Success Due To Better Than Expected Weather: Pakistan
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says the response to the earthquake in Pakistan will continue from relief into recovery and reconstruction.
Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for Pakistan Larry Hollingworth however says all three phases need funding. He says the weather has been a major factor in the success of the operation in Pakistan with the winter not being as bad as was predicted - a fact which he adds, has undoubtedly saved many lives.
"We will be battling the weather winterizing tents, we'll be issuing clothing, we'll be providing food, we'll be monitoring health until the very last day of winter whenever that is and even then, our job will not be over."
Mr. Hollingworth who has just returned from Pakistan says there's been no health crisis so far with mortality figures close to last year's.
