More Investment Needed in Water Development in Africa
28/03/2008
A new initiative aimed at improving water management in agriculture in Africa was proposed at the meeting in Tunis during the First African Water Week.
The African Development Bank, The New Partnership for Africa's Development and the World Bank are calling for an increased investment in irrigation, drainage and water harvesting. According to the World Bank, growth in the agricultural sector in Africa is key to poverty reduction and it considers the initiative to develop the continent's water resources and rural infrastructure especially timely in view of rising food prices across the globe.
