UNICEF Paints Bleak Picture for Children in Eastern DRC
31/03/2008
Prospects are bleak for children in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the UN children's agency. UNICEF says more than 600,000 children have been displaced by fighting between the government and rebels. In addition to suffering high rates of malnutrition, the children also face diseases such as cholera and measles. And girls and young women continue to report incidents of rape and other forms of sexual violence. UN Radio's Patrick Maigua sat down with UNICEF representative in the DRC, Julien Harneis, to find out more.
