Raising mine awareness to save lives
04/04/2008
There are half a million people in the world living with injuries from landmines and explosive remnants of war. The good news is that since the signing of the Ottawa Treaty banning landmines in 1997, the number of casualties has fallen from 26,000 a year to 6,000 a decade later. Bissera Kostova reports on the continuing efforts to prevent new injuries on what is the third UN International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, April 4th.
