Antigua and Barbuda on the challenges associated with urbanization

The Commission on Population and Development has wrapped a five-day session during which it heard a warning that for the first time in history, half of the world's people would be living in urban areas. More strikingly, the commission was told that future population growth would be absorbed almost entirely by urban areas in developing countries.

Jamaica tells of its increased interest in matters relating to population distribution, urbanization and development

Jamaica said it has recently observed increased interest in matters relating to population distribution, urbanization and development.

Its representative Easton Williams said this relates to the fact that with the rapid urbanization of Jamaica, experts have predicted that at present trends, population growth is projected to be concentrated in urban areas, particularly in medium and smaller-sized zones.

Suriname says it has committed to achieving the Millennium Development Goals as guiding principles for its development policy

Suriname has committed itself to achieve the Millennium Development Goals as guiding principles for its development policy and programmes.

That's what its representative Ambassador Henry MacDonald told the General Assembly's thematic debate on the Millennium Development Goals.
