WHO concerned about health situation in Myanmar
09/05/2008
The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern about the health situation in Myanmar.
Spokeswoman Fidela Chaib says while the agency doesn't have exact figures on how many children have contracted diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases, this is to be expected in this kind of disaster."Diarrhoeal diseases are the first ones to hit the population, especially the most vulnerable children under the age of five. We have also concerns about acute respiratory infections and also the fact that people will need treatment against malaria, tuberculosis, AIDS."
WHO says it also has concerns about the number of people who are wounded and would need urgent medical or surgical care.
