Secretary-General calls meeting on Myanmar

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called an emergency meeting for Wednesday afternoon with representatives of several UN member states to find ways to get aid into Myanmar more efficiently.

Mr. Ban told journalists he had a talk with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and several leaders but had not so far been able to speak with Myanmar's General Than Shwe.

The Secretary-General said he would discuss ideas with key donors and with members of the Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN) in order to come up with concrete measures to help survivors of Cyclone Nargis which struck Myanmar on the 2nd of May.
