Security Council condemns rebel attack on Khartoum

The Security Council strongly condemns the May 10 attack on Sudan's capital Khartoum by fighters of the Justice and Equality Movement. In a statement adopted unanimously, the Council calls on all parties in Sudan to stop violence immediately and warns against retaliatory action directed at the civilian population that can destabilize the region.

Information and communication technologies grow in Africa

Thousands of people gather in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss information and communication technologies in Africa. Fernando Lagrana, Executive Manager of Telecom at ITU tells UN Radio that companies are now finding business models in Africa where they promote development while making profit.

Africa presents opportunity to stabilize global food system

The current food crisis has raised concern about the impact this is having on poor people in Africa. Despite the challenges facing Africa, Peter Hartmann of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture says the continent can help stabilize the global food system.
