Zimbabwe Imposes Restrictions on Relief Agencies
06/06/2008
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is concerned about restrictions imposed by Zimbabwe on non-governmental organizations working in the country. OCHA says the move comes at a time when humanitarian assistance is badly needed. The UN estimates that more than four million Zimbabweans are benefiting from relief assistance. But the government of Zimbabwe is accusing these organizations of being part of a plot by western countries to overthrow it, a charge repeated by President Robert Mugabe during his address at the Rome conference on the global food crisis which ended on Thursday.
