WHO establishes early warning system for diseases in Myanmar
The World Health Organization -WHO says it's been able to provide the response that helped Myanmar's health system back on its feet.
WHO's Dr. Rudi Collins from Myanmar's health cluster says the agency provided medical supplies to all the major hospitals within the first ten days, despite the challenge of getting things out beyond the major centres."Today we have succeeded in that we have teams now looking at for example tuberculosis patients in the furthest away islands and so we have our teams with international staff going now everywhere. Two challenges that we faced were setting up an early warning system so that if there were diseases of epidemic potential that we can pick up from these early enough and that system is now in place and is following a number of diseases."
WHO says it has developed a plan of action for dengue prevention and control in collaboration with Myanmar's Ministry of Health.
Dengue is endemic to Myanmar.
