Women: a weekly 14-minute news magazine that looks at issues affecting

Departing Human Rights Chief Louise Arbour urges the Human Rights Council to push for respect for women's human rights

Another UN council was also busy solidifying women's rights this month. The Geneva-based Human Rights Council adopted a resolution affirming its commitment to advancing women's rights and gender equality. Louise Arbour, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has been a strong advocate for women's rights. Ms. Arbour, who will resign her position at the end of June, welcomed the Council's recent debate on violence against women and maternal mortality.
