UN continues to relocate staff from Darfur
16/07/2008
The UN Assistance Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) continues the relocation of non-essential staff for a second day.
UNAMID is flying out non-essential staff following months of worsening security despite assurances from Sudan that it would protect peacekeepers.Josephine Guerrero is Spokesperson for UNAMID:
"Thirty-two people left for Entebbe last night and 103 people left today also for Entebbe. There's also a scheduled flight for relocation within Sudan - they are not leaving the country - later today. But that's still to be confirmed."
The numbers leaving are just a fraction of the nearly 10,000 UNAMID staff deployed in the war-torn western region of Sudan.
