South African organization wins award for HIV/AIDS work

UN and Africa - a weekly 15-minute radio programme on political, social, economic and other developments related to Africa.

In this edition:

-At the international AIDS conference in Mexico City several non-governmental organizations received the 2008 Red Ribbon Award for their work in various fields to tackle HIV/AIDS. Regina Molokomme of SANERELA, a network of religious leaders in South Africa talks about the work of her organization, one of the winners of the award.

Improving postal service remains a challenge in Africa

-The postal service in Africa is among the least developed in the world. Three senior African officials attending the 24th Congress of the Universal Postal Union in Geneva outline the challenges of improving this service on a continent that currently accounts for only two per cent of the global number of post offices.

Eritrean woman talks about plight of detained relatives

-It is almost seven years since Petros Solomon, a veteran of the Eritrean independence struggle, disappeared. His wife, Aster Yohannes, is also held in an unknown location in Eritrea. Her sister, Senait Yohannes tells UN Radio's Diane Bailey about the ordeal of this Eritrean couple.
