Mexico AIDS conference an enormous opportunity for exchanging ideas: WHO

Delegates were on Friday wrapping up the 2008 International AIDS conference in Mexico City.

It's been so far described as a successful conference with over 2,500 scientists, advocates, community and political leaders in attendance debating improving the healthcare systems of developing countries to facilitate prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS--to tackling the stigma surrounding the disease through legal reform.

Dr Kevin de Cock from the World Health Organization explains that the conference has been an enormous opportunity for exchanging ideas and discusses his hopes for those attending:

"So I hope that the many thousands of people who are here leave here thinking slightly differently than when they arrived at least with some new knowledge or with some altered insights. And actually I think I have myself already; my thoughts about treatment about ART and the context of prevention--actually a subject we have worked a lot on the issue of HIV testing."

Dr Kevin de Cock from the World Health Organization.
