Russia says French draft resolution is premature

Russia says it has not been consulted in preparation of the draft resolution.

Ambassador Vitaly Churkin says Russia has two requirements:

One is that Georgia forces pull out of South Ossetia and the other: that they sign an agreement on the "non-use of force with the Ossetians and with Abkhazians.

"On the French draft, I just saw it very briefly. The draft was unfortunately prepared without consulting us. In fact, I made it clear to Ambassador La Croix that I thought it was introduced somewhat prematurely.... However, I can tell you from what I have seen this draft is lacking in a number of serious matters of principle. I mean there s no principal clarification of hat has happened in South Ossietia, no reference to Georgian aggression, no reference to the atrocities that we have seen."

Ambassador Churkin says some of the elements of what was thought to be an agreement between the presidents of Russia and France have not been incorporated in the draft resolution.
