Security Council condemns bomb attack in Algeria
The Security Council has strongly condemned the terrorist suicide attack today in Algeria.
The attack, which killed more than forty people, took place at a police college at Issers, about sixty kilometers east of the capital Algiers.
In a statement read by its President, Ambassador Jan Grauls of Belgium, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to the victims of the attack, their families and to the people and government of Algeria.
The Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of "this reprehensive act of terrorism to justice " and urged all states to cooperate actively with the Algerian authorities in that regard.
"The Security Council reaffirms that terrorism, in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security and that any act of terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable regardless of the motivation whenever, wherever and by whomsoever committed."
The Security Council further reaffirmed the need to combat by all means threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
