Update on humanitarian situation in Georgia by UN agencies
02/09/2008
Teams from the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) are helping scores of people displaced by the recent conflict in Georgia. The internally displaced people--or "IDPs"--have found refuge in the town of Gori, located south of the breakaway region of South Ossetia. There, UNHCR is running a tented camp where 1200 people are living alongside its staff. Others have been set up with host families or in centres throughout the city, says UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond.
